Re: p.s.

Tags is a great step towards organization. :) Which on LJ is very important because many authors use their fic posting journal as their main journal as well. It's not so bad if a story is posted all at once but some authors have WIP and so you have story chapters intermixed with actual LJ posts of other fandom related stuff or personal stuff.

I've seen authors use a variety of methods to make their stories easier for users to find on LJ. Most have a single post listing all their fic (and sometimes all the links to every chapter for each individual story, which is a personal favorite of mine. Or they use the tags and create one Master Post which includes the story summary, rating, pairing, title, artwork, and every link to all the chapters and then they tag all the chapters so no matter how a person finds the story they can always find the master post which helps the user find all chapters in one location.

People post recs links to pretty much every other chapter except chapter 1 it seems like sometimes. That's not normally a problem except not all authors have a link going back to Chapter 1 and not all authors have a sticky post at the top of their LJ listing all their stories.

The main goal is to make it so that no matter what chapter someone lands on in your story they can find their way within 1 click to all your chapters. If it takes more than 3 link jumps most people bail. I bailed the first time I couldn't find all chapters of your story fast enough. The second time someone recommended I decided to ask if you had a single file because I didn't have time that evening to find all the chapters myself. :(

I think the main reason I notice these things is because I'm in grad school to earn my Masters in Library Science and I run two archives. :)

The main reason I recommend archives (though I'm not sure Inception actually has one except for at A03) is that the organizing is done for the author by the archivist and users don't generally run into problems like missing chapters on archives.

With LJ/DW and etc...the organizational work falls onto the author's shoulders. Which for some authors is a-okay because they have time and like organizing but if you're busy writing, working, reading fic, and would rather do anything else but organize, it's a pain in the ass. I truly appreciate the efforts authors put into making their stories (and all chapter links) easier to find and that's on top of writing fic! :)

Okay I can talk about organization stuff all night long. So I'll stop there.

Good luck on adding tags.
